Strava releases ‘highly anticipated’ dark mode

Strava, which now boasts a global community of more than 125 million athletes, has confirmed the general availability of dark mode on mobile for all Strava athletes, less than 45 days after introducing it at the company’s annual event, Camp Strava.

Strava notes that this highly anticipated feature is designed to improve the app’s performance by reducing eye strain and making it more accessible, whether athletes are logging their activity or scrolling through their feed.

Dark mode is especially useful in low-light environments, such as evening or early morning outdoor activities. Additionally, this feature represents a change in the way athletes interact with the app, affecting everything from user interaction to readability.

Riders can further personalize their Strava experience by choosing whether the settings are always dark, always light, or synced with their device settings.

Strava adds that the introduction of dark mode underscores the company’s commitment to listening to community feedback and delivering features that meet the evolving needs of athletes.

To enable dark mode in the Strava app:

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of the Strava app
  • Go to the “You” tab
  • Click the settings icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  • In the “Preferences” section, go to the “Appearance” tab
  • Select the desired mode: “Default” (compatible with the athlete’s mobile settings); “Light” mode or “Dark” mode
