Apple Classifies iPhone X as a ‘Vintage’ Device

JAKARTA Apple’s vintage product category now includes three new devices. The three devices that are considered old or obsolete are the first-generation iPhone X, AirPods, and the original HomePod. Apple explains that devices will be considered vintage or ancient if sales or distribution have been discontinued for more than five years and less than seven years. The iPhone X entered this line since it was launched in 2017. On its official website, Apple lists the iPhone X as an Old iPhone product worldwide. In the next few years, this device will be included in the list of devices that are already obsolete or unusable. Once it enters the obsolete category, such as the iPhone 5 and 6 lines, Apple will discontinue all hardware services, and software updates will no longer be available. Spare parts for this product are also not available.

You don’t need to worry if you are still using iPhone X till now. Despite iPhone X being categorized as old-school, it can still be repaired by service provider but the repair will be adjusted according to the availability of spare parts. Not far from the year of birth of iPhone X, first generation AirPods are considered old-school as this device was launched in September 2016 along with iPhone 7. These are the first AirPods to enter the old-school category. Meanwhile, HomePod is a device that Apple shows at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2017 event but the device was launched in 2018. This device deserves to be called old-school as the production was discontinued in 2021.
