Worcester Explosives Trigger Public Warning – NECN

Authorities issued a public warning after three homemade explosive devices were recently found in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The Worcester District Attorney’s Office issued a warning Tuesday morning asking residents to be vigilant and report any unattended coolers or other suspicious items they see to authorities.

The first device was found June 19 when a small explosion occurred on Madison Street in Worcester. Investigators said they found fireworks, a can of butane gas and projectile materials at the scene. Two other devices that were not detonated but were constructed of similar materials and placed in refrigerators were also found in Worcester last month.

“As authorities continue their investigation, they encourage the public to be vigilant for unattended items, especially coolers,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement. “Do not attempt to tamper with these items. Instead, call authorities immediately.”

“Massachusetts residents have been seriously injured while attempting to create homemade explosive devices,” said State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine. “These devices are illegal and potentially deadly.”

Anyone who notices suspicious items is asked to call 911.
