Worcester District Attorney urges vigilance after finding homemade explosive devices – The Shrewsbury Post

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.’s office is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any unattended coolers or suspicious items to authorities following the recent discovery of three homemade explosive devices in Worcester.

The investigation is being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, the Worcester Police Department, the Worcester Fire Department and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

On June 19, a small explosion occurred near 185 Madison Street, where investigators found fireworks, a can of butane gas and explosives.

Last month, two further failed to detonate explosives made of similar materials and placed in refrigerators were discovered in Worcester.

Authorities advise the public to be cautious of unattended items, especially refrigerators, and not tamper with them. Instead, contact the authorities immediately.

Anyone who comes across suspicious items should call 911.

“Massachusetts residents have been seriously injured while attempting to create homemade explosive devices,” said State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine. “These devices are illegal and potentially deadly.”
