Kerala Tourism to explore opportunities for cooperation with Cuba in tourism sector. Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas held a discussion with Mr. Abel Despaigne, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in India, on Kerala Tourism, here on Monday evening. Mr. Despaigne, who is in Kerala on a nine-day visit, said Cuba attaches great importance to mutual cooperation with Kerala in the tourism sector.

Commenting on the historical significance of political and cultural exchanges between Kerala and Cuba, Mr. Despaigne said that this cooperation should be extended to other sectors, including tourism. During his presentation on Cuban tourism, Mr. Despaigne said that like in Kerala, the tourist activities of his country are mainly concentrated in the landscape adjacent to the sea.

Tourism Secretary K. Biju, who presided over the function, said that opportunities for cooperation with Cuba in the tourism sector would be explored as the state is keen to cooperate with the North American island nation. By implementing innovative tourism initiatives and introducing products in line with emerging trends, Kerala has also emerged as a futuristic tourist destination, attracting tourists from across the world, the Tourism Minister said during the interaction.

Director Tourism Sikha Surendran, who made a presentation on the key features of tourism in Kerala, said the state is continuing its efforts by emphasising experiential tourism through innovative modules, including agri-tourism and responsible tourism.
