PM Shehbaz meets Tajikistan President, highlights Pakistan’s investment potential in multiple sectors – Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and stressed that there is huge potential for foreign investment in Pakistan in energy, mining, industrial, agricultural and other sectors.

When the Prime Minister arrived at Qasr-e-Millat, he was welcomed by the President of Tajikistan and was then given an honorary escort by units of the Tajik armed forces.

President Emomali Rahmon stressed the cordial and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz invited Tajikistan to invest in various sectors of Pakistan with a view to improving regional connectivity and links between the people of both countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Dushanbe on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan at the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.

The prime minister will meet with President Rahmon, Chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon Oli Mahmadtoir Zoir Zokirzoda and Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) said in a statement.

“The two sides will hold wide-ranging discussions on issues of common interest to further deepen bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of regional connectivity, trade, people-to-people contacts and energy, as well as cooperation on multilateral issues,” the FO said.

Possible Pakistan-Tajik SPA during PM’s visit

Both countries will also sign agreements and memoranda of understanding in various areas of cooperation.

The visit is part of regular high-level contacts between Pakistan and Tajikistan, a press release said.

Earlier sources reported that Business Registrar that Pakistan and Tajikistan are likely to sign a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) during the Prime Minister’s visit.

“To raise the level of bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared a draft SPA between the two countries, proposing cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, security and defence, energy and communications, culture, tourism and people-to-people contacts, as well as an action plan (2024-26),” the sources added.
