Tools for Humanity adds privacy, biometrics and digital ID features

The round of distinguished leadership appointments by Tools for Humanity aims to enhance its expertise in privacy, security, biometric hardware, and digital identification as the Worldcoin project scales. Tools for Humanity (TFH) is the parent company and lead developer of Worldcoin, which will be the focus of all four new TFH executives.

Damien Kieran was Twitter’s chief privacy and data protection officer before it was acquired by Elon Musk and rebranded as X. In his new role, he will be responsible for working with global regulators and contributing to industry standards for compliance and privacy, according to an announcement from the company. The job will take up a lot of his time, judging by the legal and regulatory reviews the company has just begun to leave behind.

Bloomberg Law reports that TFH has also tapped Tim Wybitul, a partner at German law firm Latham & Watkins, to help it work with the Bavarian data protection authority, which is taking the lead in assessing Worldcoin’s GDPR compliance.

Adrian Ludwig has been named Chief Information Security Officer at TFH, a position he will be responsible for internal and external data security. Ludwig is the former Chief Security Officer for Android and served as CISO and CTO at Atlassian.

The company also named Rich Heley as its director of devices and Ajay Patel as head of World ID. Heley will be responsible for developing orb, the device Worldcoin uses to capture iris biometrics for deduplication, convert the data to a hash for comparison, and then delete it. He brings executive experience from Apple, Meta, and Tesla. Patel will lead World ID’s product strategy and implementation, drawing on his experience as head of Google Payments’ identity team.

Last month, TFH also hired Elliot Suthers as its head of communications for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
