Express your opinion on the proposed changes to the provisions of the Fire Prevention Act

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking public comment on two sets of proposed legislation following Bill 67: An Act to Amend the Wildfire Prevention Act.

New rules for the planning review appeal board

Recent changes to the Act make all requirements set by the Office of the Fire Marshal in the plan review report binding as ordinances.

The proposed Plan Review Appeals Board regulations would govern the procedure for appealing plan review orders issued by the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Updated Code Adoption Rules

This proposal aims to amend the existing fire prevention regulations to be consistent with the 2020 National Building Code of Canada and the 2020 National Fire Code of Canada.

Until these changes come into force, these regulations require contractors to comply with the 2015 National Building Code and the National Fire Code.
