Acteon develops performance monitoring for Kincardine wind farm in North Sea

Acteon is providing operations and maintenance for the 50MW Kincardine offshore wind farm in the central North Sea, 15km from Aberdeen.

The investment includes five V164-9.5 MW turbines installed on Principle Power WindFloat platforms at depths ranging from 60 m to 80 m. The turbines have been operating since October 2021.

Grupo Cobra, which manages the facilities on behalf of Kincardine Offshore Windfarm Ltd. (KOWL), recently won the tender for operations and maintenance.

Pulse, a subsidiary of Acteon specializing in structural monitoring, will design, supply and install structural health and movement monitoring systems for floating wind turbines.

Systems will include six-degree-of-freedom motion monitoring, position and direction sensors on platforms, load cells and strain gauges, and data communications infrastructure.

Under the same agreement, Acteon’s 2H division is developing a structurally responsive digital twin based on machine learning techniques. The aim of this project is to provide insight into the response of assets during operations, early indication of potential anomalies and help optimize future inspection and measurement work.

During the 18-month program, Acteon will work with Grupo Cobra to implement digital twin technology.

The project is supported by Red.es as part of the Spanish Recovery and Resilience Plan, which is in turn funded by the EU (Next Generation EU).
