iOS 18 with India customization and multi-language support available for iPhone users

Apple on Tuesday announced India-focused features for iOS 18 that are aimed at upgrading eligible iPhones with the operating system. These India-focused features include expanded language support and additional features tailored specifically for users in the country. The tech giant also highlighted significant updates to the Move to iOS app as part of this platform update, which is set to release later this year.

Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 18, debuted at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024. The tech giant highlighted a number of India-specific features and improvements as it aims to grab a bigger share of the world’s second-largest smartphone market. The iOS 18 update leverages Apple Intelligence to deliver a more personalized and intuitive user experience.

iOS 18, the latest update for iPhones, stands out as one of the most feature-packed updates in recent memory. It introduces extensive customization options, allowing users to freely organize apps and widgets on the Home screen. This version also includes a major overhaul of the Photos app, described as its most significant design to date. Additionally, iOS 18 includes improvements such as call recording and new text effects in iMessage, improving the overall user experience.

With a focus on personalization and AI integration, iOS 18 reflects Apple’s commitment to the Indian market and its diverse user base.

Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian

iOS 18 brings new capabilities to iPhone users in India, including Live Voicemail Transcription in Indian English. This feature allows users to filter incoming calls by prompting callers to leave a message, which is then transcribed in real time for convenient reading. Users can answer a call at any time while the voicemail is being recorded. Apple is also introducing Live Caller ID, intelligent call history search, search using the phone’s keypad, and dialing improvements tailored specifically for Indian users.

Language Search in Indian Languages

With iOS 18, Apple is introducing support for several Indian languages in its language search feature. This update allows users to search for words using their known spellings, even if there are differences within the same language. The supported regional languages are Assamese, Bengali, Devanagari, and Gujarati.

Siri supports 9 more languages

Expanded language support: Siri now supports 9 additional Indian languages along with Indian English, allowing users to perform tasks like setting alarms and launching apps using a mix of English and regional languages. Additionally, Siri can now respond in Hindi.

Multilingual support

iPhone 12 and later models will soon support phonetic typing using Latin characters in English and up to two additional Indian languages, providing users with a trilingual, predictive typing experience. This multilingual keyboard support will be seamlessly integrated throughout the operating system. Users will find this convenient because the keyboard remembers the script used in previous conversations in different language threads, automatically switching as needed. The feature will initially support English, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
