Zack Snyder Announces Justice League Theatrical Release

Zack Snyder announces his four-hour cut Justice League The film is coming to cinemas.

The film was released on HBO Max in 2021 and is his version of the film as he intended it, with Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League never saw a theatrical release. My understanding is that Warner Bros. commissioned Snyder to make the film to bolster its new streaming service HBO Max, which has also seen WB release a number of films on the service, including Wonder Woman 1984. Well, all these releases didn’t do much for HBO Max, which has now been rebranded as Max. It is believed that the films would have performed better in theaters.

On the way to the big screen

So three years have passed and Zack Snyder is basically confirming his Justice League for theatrical distribution.

Snyder posted a photo of Ben Affleck as Batman on the Vero app: “Want to see ZSJL on the big screen… stay tuned for a date soon.”

It’s worth mentioning that this news comes ahead of Comic-Con, which will take place later this month, so perhaps we’ll find out the official release date at SDCC.

Recall that my DC insiders told me that Zack Snyder could return to DC if he wanted to. I recently saw Snyder state that he wanted to adapt and direct Frank Miller The Black Knight Returns.

Zack Snyder returning to DC?

It would be really weird if Snyder returned to set another DC movie.

Snyder also said he wants Ben Affleck to return to the role of Batman. Affleck has encountered more than one problem playing Batman. The latest was when James Gunn said he asked Affleck to be in the DCU. However, Affleck immediately blocked it and said “absolutely not” and that he was not interested. From what I’ve been told, this is due to the original ending Flash Affleck was set to head up the Batman Multiverse, but the idea was blocked by WBD president David Zaslav.

So even though the DCEU failed and is over, Snyder could move on to his own, separate DC project.

Years ago before Man of Steelhis Superman movie was supposed to be separate and not part of Justice League, which would have been separate from Snyder’s material with his own version of Superman. Talk about full circle, eh?
