The New Jersey State Bar Association has appointed Genova Burns LLC attorney Kenneth Sheehan as co-chair of its Renewable Energy, Clean Technology, and Climate Change Committee.

Sheehan, who focuses on energy and utilities law, will serve from 2024 to 2025, drawing on more than two decades of experience in the field. Newark-based Genova Burns said he has advised public and private clients on a wide range of issues, including regulatory compliance, project development and renewable energy project financing, and his expertise includes solar, wind, hydroelectric and other clean energy technologies.

His latest appointment at NJSBA will allow him to lead efforts to promote the development and implementation of policies and practices that support renewable energy, clean technology innovation, and climate change mitigation.

“We are thrilled to see Ken’s commitment and experience recognized by the NJSBA,” said Angelo J. Genova, President and Managing Partner of Genova Burns. “His leadership on the Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Climate Change Committee will undoubtedly drive significant progress in these critical areas.”

In a press release, Genova said the appointment reflects Sheehan’s extensive experience and commitment to advancing renewable energy and environmental law. Before joining the firm, he helped shape energy policy and regulations in several prestigious positions, including as general counsel and director of the Office of Clean Energy for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

Genova said the appointment comes at a time when the legal and public services sectors are increasingly faced with the challenges posed by climate change.

“I am honored to accept this position and look forward to working with my colleagues to advance the goals of the state, the NJSBA and the need for a sustainable energy future,” Sheehan said.
