UK’s Sainsbury’s says weak non-food sales weigh on quarterly sales growth
Sainsbury’s, the U.K.’s second-largest supermarket group, reported a 3% rise in core sales in the first quarter, although weather-related weakness in non-food areas partly offset strong grocery demand. Sainsbury’s said it still expects full-year 2024/25 core retail operating profit of £1.01 billion to £1.06 billion ($1.28 billion to $1.34 billion), which would be an increase of 5% to 10%.

11 Dutch supermarkets have committed to selling 60% plant-based proteins by 2030.
Supermarket chain SPAR and app-only grocery store Picnic are the latest companies to commit to ambitious protein transition goals set by Dutch animal welfare organisation Wakker Dier. They will work to sell 50% plant-based protein by 2025, rising to 60% by 2030. A total of 11 supermarkets operating in the Netherlands have already made the commitment; the others are Albert Heijn, Aldi, Crisp, Dirk, Ekoplaza, Jumbo, Lidl, Plus and Odin.
