ALIBABA.COM LAUNCHES INITIAL KEL AWARD, MALAYSIANS ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) — Alibaba.com, a leading global business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce platform, today announced the first Key E-commerce Leader Award (KEL Award), which aims to recognise outstanding e-commerce service providers in the South and Southeast Asian regions.

Alibaba.com said in a statement that the KEL Award, which kicks off this week and runs until November this year, will be selected from eligible suppliers from seven countries, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

“These suppliers will compete in national rounds in their respective markets from August to October. The top 10 performers from the national round will take the stage at the finals to be held in Vietnam in November, where the three most outstanding participants among them will be crowned the winners of the KEL Award,” it said.

Contestants are expected to showcase how they are using the Alibaba.com platform to develop and expand their export businesses, as well as the strategies they are using to differentiate themselves in the global marketplace.

“KEL Awards judging will be based on the content and creativity of the presentation, effectiveness in communication and personal branding, in-depth understanding of the Alibaba.com platform, and proficiency in answering questions and formulating plans to influence and inspire others in the e-commerce community.

“The competition is open to owners, key employees and managers of companies selling on Alibaba.com that have a rating of at least two stars and have been actively present on the platform for at least six months,” the statement reads.

Alibaba.com added that the KEL Award aims to unite the best suppliers from across the region and promote mutual learning and engagement. In addition, the award offers participants the opportunity to increase their influence in the global buyer and supplier community, increasing their visibility and opening doors to cooperation opportunities.

“Competition participants will have the opportunity to access expert-led training sessions from Alibaba.com, which aim to strengthen their operational competencies on the platform, as well as develop interpersonal skills that are crucial in the areas of leadership, public speaking and team management.

“Standout suppliers participating in the contest will be eligible for exclusive benefits, including enhanced product listings and keyword ad bonuses, which will increase the visibility of their products on Alibaba.com,” the release reads.

Meanwhile, Roger Luo, head of South and Southeast Asia region at Alibaba.com, said the KEL Award aims to serve as an important platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on Alibaba.com to showcase their entrepreneurship and innovation, while also fostering collaboration and learning across markets.

“By showcasing the competition’s success stories, we hope to inspire countless other SMEs involved in global trade to achieve new heights of success on the international stage,” he said.

The top three KEL contestants will receive an additional prize of a sponsored “dream trip” to Alibaba.com headquarters in Hangzhou, China.

All national winners will also be appointed as Alibaba.com faculty, giving them the opportunity to share their insights and experiences with other suppliers in the South and Southeast Asia region.
