Suno Releases iPhone App; Now You Can Create AI Music On The Go

If you’ve ever wanted to produce music with Suno away from your computer, you’re in luck. It’s now available on iOS — at least in the United States.

A generative AI program generates full songs with lyrics and vocals (or instrumentals, if you prefer) based on just the prompt text or your own sound.

While the app will initially be available only for iPhone in the United States, Suno says it will be available in other territories and on Android in the future, and there will be some “fun updates” coming as well.

According to the App Store, Pro and Premier plans can be purchased directly in the app, and they will also work on the web version.

The Friction of AI-Driven Creativity

Suno is one of the most powerful music-making AI models on the market, capable of producing a wide range of styles, genres, and sounds. This, combined with concerns about the data used to train it, has led to a legal dispute with the music industry.

If you’re worried that an app could take control of your creative process away from you, we spoke with Keenan Freyberg, co-founder of Suno, earlier this year.

“We’re not trying to make music better, faster, or cheaper—whatever that means,” Tom’s Guide told us. “We’re always trying to find completely new ways to experience and engage with music—things that can be done in unique ways with AI.”

That hasn’t stopped Suno from engaging in legal disputes with the music industry, though the company says it has safeguards in place to prevent its tools from being used to create music that sounds like or copies songs by real artists, as well as from using real lyrics.

One of the goals of AI-generative music is to allow you to send a short song to a friend or loved one and compete with the music industry, and an iPhone app makes that much easier.
