Explosives found at Worcester home

Worcester, MA – Authorities have issued a public warning after three homemade explosive devices were discovered in Worcester.

The Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, Worcester Police Department, Worcester Fire Department and Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are conducting an ongoing investigation.

The devices were discovered after a small explosion June 19 near 185 Madison St., where investigators found fireworks, a can of butane and explosives.

Two more non-detonating devices, made of similar materials and placed in coolers, were found last month in Worcester. Authorities are urging the public to be cautious with unattended items, especially coolers. Do not tamper with suspicious items; instead, contact authorities immediately by calling 911.

State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine emphasized the dangers, stating, “Massachusetts residents have suffered serious injuries attempting to create homemade explosive devices. These devices are illegal and potentially deadly.”
