AdvancedMD Launches New Automation and Payment Capabilities to Help Private Practices Increase Productivity and Generate More Revenue

With a summer 2024 product launch, AdvancedMD is rolling out AdvancedMD Pay credit card processing system and terminal that unifies the entire patient billing process

AdvancedMD, a Global Payments (GPN) company and provider of cloud-based healthcare software for independent medical practices, today announced more than 30 new features for a summer 2024 release, with updates to AdvancedMD’s suite of practice management, EHR and patient engagement tools. The updates are designed to increase efficiency, boost productivity and increase revenue.

The most significant of these product updates is the recently released PAX A920 Certified Credit Card Processing Terminal. The terminal seamlessly integrates with AdvancedMD Pay, the company’s comprehensive healthcare payment processing platform that enables private practices to collect credit card payments in person and online, enabling a fully unified revenue cycle management strategy. The credit card processing terminals will be available by invitation to current AdvancedMD Pay customers during the initial rollout, with expansion to all customers thereafter.

In addition to the AdvancedMD Pay terminal, the AdvancedMD Pay platform can now process payment plans through the AdvancedMD Patient Billing Wizard for patients who have a credit card on file. It can also capture and pay insurance virtual credit card (VCC) payments, allowing facilities to process VCCs in Payment Entry—all in one transaction. Explaining the Benefits AdvancedMD allows healthcare providers and their administrative teams to distribute payment to multiple patients and monitor how many VCC payments remain.

According to a recent Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) survey, more than one-third of medical groups surveyed automate less than 20% of their revenue cycle operations. Meanwhile, when asked what areas they plan to automate or outsource this year, one in five medical group owners said it was the “revenue cycle” elements of their practice.

“Healthcare providers and private practice owners face countless challenges when it comes to establishing effective revenue cycle management strategies. Claim denials, low reimbursement rates, late patient payments and more can have a dramatic impact on a practice’s financial stability. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce our credit card processing terminal, which enables practices to easily accept in-person payments through a device that seamlessly integrates with the AdvancedMD Pay platform,” said Tim Costantino, vice president and chief product officer at AdvancedMD. “This is one of many ways AdvancedMD helps our customers by providing best-in-class payment solutions that drive more efficient and more profitable workflow processes. With this latest release, we’re raising the bar on practice management, EHR and patient engagement capabilities so our customers have the tools they need to build a thriving practice.”

In addition to the launch of the AdvancedMD Pay terminal and updates, the platform also offers a range of new features across practice management, EHR and patient interactions.

Practice Management News:

  • The Carrier Update tool now allows administrators to update multiple carriers at once, making mass updates quick and easy.

  • Automated payment terms for cancellations and absences, allowing for multiple charges with different fee amounts, giving practices the flexibility to change the fee based on whether it’s an absence or cancellation. AdvancedMD customers can easily track patients who frequently miss appointments and close the documentation loop by adding a note and bill in the EHR.

  • AdvancedMD customers can now perform a partial write-off using the Mass Write-off feature, and the Fee Schedule Import tool has also been improved: instead of receiving an error when attempting to import a file that contains CPT codes that are not in the office key, AdvancedMD customers will now receive a warning. The warning helps save time by eliminating the need to manually remove missing codes—instead, the import can be completed with all other charges in the file that belong to the CPT codes in use.

EHR Updates:

  • AdvancedMD has made a number of improvements to its e-prescribing experience based on customer feedback, including more filtering and sorting options on the eSend status screen, new pharmacy and drug search capabilities, a prescribing physician list that displays only those physicians who can prescribe via eSend when issuing a prescription, and more.

  • Ability to review medications dispensed by the pharmacy and assess adherence to medication recommendations, making it easier to assess data for patients who are not adherent.

  • Improved electronic case reporting capabilities: Facilities can automatically send patient case reports directly from the AdvancedMD EHR system to state public health agencies without disrupting clinical workflow.

Patient Engagement Updates:

  • More detailed visibility into patient form management for increased operational transparency and patient care assessment: Facilities can see who assigned and/or approved a specific patient form.

  • Increased admin control and user-level security for meeting reminder templates: Admins can now restrict who can edit templates. There are also new role permissions in the “User Management” settings for the Automatic Messages and Reminders feature. When the setting is disabled for any user, they will not be able to edit these templates.

  • Improvements to time zones in the schedule make it easier to schedule appointments for patients who live in different time zones than the doctor’s office. This update allows for a more seamless process for scheduling and managing appointments. This feature is available across all AdvancedMD products, including the mobile apps.
