Go Green with Taiwan campaign highlights the importance of green energy solutions

Taipei, TAIWAN – The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan Excellence and the International Trade Agency (TITA) are encouraging Taiwanese companies to “work together with Taiwan to protect the environment.”

According to TAITRA, the campaign aims to find proposals that focus on the use of Taiwanese green products and solutions or on supporting cooperation aimed at achieving sustainable ecological and economic development.

Proposals will be judged in four categories: environmental and economic sustainability; feasibility; innovation; and combination of products or solutions from Taiwanese companies. The top three proposals will receive $20,000 each, and six finalists will receive a free round-trip trip to Taiwan.

“Taiwan’s policy is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, so that’s our goal,” said TAITRA Chairman James Huang. “We want our country to become a green island in the 21st century. By green island, we mean a country with the latest, pioneering, green solutions. Collaboration is very important; no country can do it alone, we have to work hand in hand, and that’s what this proposal is about.”

Of the six categories in which applications can be submitted, two focus on green energy: 1.) energy and storage; and 2.) energy conservation.

Sophia Chuang, strategic marketing officer of TAITRA, said: “Taiwan’s energy policy aims for renewable energy to account for 20% of total electricity generation by 2025, and renewable energy generation to reach 27GW. Under the standard, which requires power plants to have 10% reserve capacity, the energy storage system should be built to a capacity of 2.7GW when renewable energy reaches 27GW.”

Chuang said energy is an important category in the campaign and that it is essential for Taiwan to “actively promote the construction of energy storage systems to ensure the stability of future energy supplies.”

She added: “For Taiwan to develop the energy storage system industry, it is necessary to encourage private investment in the construction of energy storage systems through appropriate policies and gradually improve safety regulations to provide better safety guarantees.”

Huang commented on the energy component of the campaign: “Energy consumption is our top priority.”

TAITRA will support the winning projects in implementing their ecological goals by facilitating contacts between the leaders of the winning projects and potential partners, including companies, research institutions and government agencies.

“These partnerships can help share resources, expertise and technology to achieve these green goals,” Chuang said. “In addition, TAITRA also has a global network of sales centers that can provide advice and monitor potential collaborations if needed.”
