Highly experienced public servant promoted to Chief Executive of Cavan County Council

Newly appointed Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Eoin Doyle.

Cavan County Council has a new Chief Executive, Eoin Doyle.

The highly experienced local government official was formally accepted by elected members at a special meeting of the local government, which followed a competitive recruitment process run by the Public Appointments Service.

Mr Doyle’s appointment had been widely anticipated since the retirement of his predecessor, Tommy Ryan, in October last year, and Doyle has been filling the role on an interim basis.

Cavan’s newly appointed local government leader comes to the position with over three decades of experience in local government.

The last 16 people have served as director of services, with responsibility for housing, libraries and cultural services, human resources and the council’s corporate services.

Mr Doyle previously served successfully on Galway County Council, Carlow County Council and Offaly County Council.

“I look forward to building on the excellent progress that has been made in recent years across this wonderful county and I am confident that, working with our dedicated and skilled staff, a committed and active community sector and committed elected representatives, we will continue to contribute to making County Cavan a stronger place,” he said.

Cavan County Council leader, Councillor TP O’Reilly, said Mr Doyle’s promotion to the most senior public servant in local government was entirely justified.

“Eoin is known by all council members as a dynamic and dedicated public servant who always strives to deliver the best for the county,” he said.

“I look forward to working with Eoin, his management team and the hardworking council staff to continue to improve Cavan as a place to live, work and visit.”
