Tesla Releases Update 2024.26 – Automations for Climate and Charging, Weather and New Music Services

Tesla recently rolled out build 2024.26 to its employees, and this update is packed with so many features that we might as well call it the Summer Update.

The update was made available to “Wave 1” employee testers, who typically receive feature updates in advance to test them for bugs and other issues.

This update has introduced several highly anticipated features. Let’s take a closer look at some of them.

Updated climate screen

There’s a redesigned climate control panel that will allow users to “easily select comfort settings.” We haven’t seen any photos of the updated climate control panel yet, but we plan on it being integrated and all the functions being on one screen instead of separating the front and rear seats.

Adjusting fan speed during phone calls

In version 2024.26, when the Auto climate control function is enabled, the fan speed may automatically lower to reduce ambient noise during a phone call. A similar function was introduced earlier last year in version 2023.26, so we expect this to be an improvement on the same function.

Go to sub destinations

As part of the larger navigation updates coming soon, Tesla has added another feature that uses the updated Google Places API. You’ll now be able to navigate to sub-destinations, including specific airport terminals.

It’s a change that will be absolutely necessary for Robotaxi, but it’s also incredibly helpful for drivers trying to navigate the monstrous transportation hubs and signs that most modern airports have. Hopefully, this integration will continue to expand and we’ll get additional sub-destinations, such as specific parking lots or floors of parking garages, allowing users to park their vehicles as close as possible to the appropriate shopping center or building entrance.

Charging and air conditioning schedule

With the revamped climate menu, Tesla is adding features that have been requested for a long time. This includes the ability to have more detailed control over scheduled charging and preheat/cool options – including scheduling a one-time or specific day and time of the week to charge or air condition your vehicle. And it all depends on your location!

The same feature will also be coming to the Tesla app, meaning users will be able to manage all of their locations, charging start and end times, and even when to turn on the air conditioning if needed.

More music, gaming, weather and more

Music and weather

Tesla has also added a few other amazing features to this update, including YouTube Music and Amazon Music, as well as an updated Weather widget that includes a weather report and Air Quality Index. Read about it here.

Parental control

Tesla has also added Parental Controls to its suite of features – focusing on safer driving by limiting the vehicle’s top speed and acceleration, as well as enforcing safety features. Read about it in detail here.

Games

Tesla has updated some games in Arcade, including an update to Battle of Polytopia and Vampire Survivors, two of its most popular games. It also added support for the TeslaMic, which works with the updated Caraoke mode. The TeslaMic could soon be available for purchase in North America once this update hits customers – if it matches the price in the Chinese store, it will cost around $160 ($220 CAD).

Zoom meetings

In this release, Zoom meetings will now adjust to full screen when your car enters the parking lot, or default to full screen if your car is already parked.

Additionally, you will now be able to log in by scanning a QR code on a device that is already logged into Zoom! We hope to see this feature appear in more Tesla integrations with other companies.

release date

Given that this went out to first wave employees today and will likely involve minimal bug fixes, it could take at least a week or two for it to hit customer vehicles. If you are in an FSD branch, don’t expect to receive this update for a while, as those running FSD V12.3.6 (2024.14.X) are waiting for FSD V12.4.2 on 2024.15.10.

In Tesla’s 2024.26 update, which is currently in employee testing, Tesla is introducing a set of parental controls. Parental controls allow you to limit some vehicle options for teenagers or other drivers.

The new control restrictions are aimed at safer driving. They will limit the vehicle’s maximum speed, acceleration, enforce safety features and even notify you if the vehicle is being driven late at night.

Decreasing speed and acceleration

One of the biggest features of the new parental controls is the ability to set a maximum speed and reduce the vehicle’s acceleration. Tesla already included a maximum speed option that could be forced in Valet Mode, but with this update, it can now be forced for other drivers as well. Once a profile is marked as a restricted driver, they’ll need to enter a PIN to modify or disable the maximum speed. You’ll also be able to limit the acceleration mode to Chill, which means the vehicle’s power and torque are limited.

Implementing security features

With parental controls, the owner can also force certain safety features to remain on. These features include speed limit warning, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. While these features aren’t intrusive, parental controls prevent them from being accidentally turned off.

Night Driving Notifications

The final feature Tesla is adding to parental controls in the 2024.26 update is the ability for vehicle owners to receive notifications if the vehicle drives past a certain time. For example, if you set a curfew for midnight, you’ll receive a notification if the vehicle starts driving past that time.

Set up parental controls

You can set up parental controls through the Tesla app or in your vehicle. In your vehicle, go to Controls > Safety and scroll to Parental Controls.

In the Tesla app, this feature will likely be available in the Safety section, where you can already limit the maximum speed.

Each restricted driver profile will have a “training wheels” icon next to the driver’s name.

Apart from young drivers

It’s possible that the new restricted profiles could also be useful if you rent a vehicle on Turo or another rental service. While you may not want to receive notifications about driving at night, you may want to prevent drivers from going over 100 mph or disable important safety features.

Be sure to check out other features in the 2024.26 update like YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and more.

Tesla has just released its latest software update, version 2024.26, to its employees. The update is now available to any employee who has access to wave 1 releases.

We have a first look at the update and some of its most popular features. It’s a major update that brings some of the most requested features to Tesla’s operating system, rivaling Tesla’s last spring update in popularity.

YouTube Music and Amazon Music

In this update, Tesla has added two new music streaming services, including the popular Music from Youtube and Amazon Music services. We first reported on Tesla adding Amazon Music back in May, but now it’s official with the 2024.26 update.

Both of these streaming music services will require Tesla’s $10/month Premium Connectivity add-on or an active WiFi connection. You can also use your cell phone’s hotspot to bypass the required Premium Connectivity, but that won’t work for all premium features.

Tesla says YouTube Music will give you access to all your favorites and added songs, as well as your playlists, artists, and podcasts you subscribe to. You’ll need a YouTube Premium subscription, which costs $13.99 per month.

When it comes to Amazon MusicAny Amazon Prime member will be able to use Amazon Music in their Tesla without paying an additional subscription fee. Amazon is also offering Amazon Music Unlimited, which will also be available but requires an Amazon subscription. As with YouTube Music, you’ll need Tesla’s Premium Connectivity feature or a WiFi or hotspot connection to use Amazon Music.

Weather and Air Quality Index

In addition to the music services, Tesla has added two additional features if you subscribe to Premium Connectivity. Unfortunately, it looks like Tesla pays a fee for this data, so it won’t be available if you’re using WiFi or a hotspot. To use these features, you’ll need a Premium Connectivity subscription.

Similar to what Tesla has shown in China for some time now, Tesla will now display an air quality indicator in the vehicle status bar. Unlike in China, it will only be displayed when the AQI is deemed poor.

If the AQI is low, an AQI label with the AQI reading will appear at the top of the screen.

You’ll now also be able to tap the temperature reading in your vehicle and get a weather report. When you tap the temperature, you’ll see a pop-up that displays the day’s high and low temperatures, as well as the chance of precipitation.

Tesla has been really pushing Premium Connectivity lately and continues to add value to the service by adding additional features. Some features are available over Wi-Fi, so you can try them out while connected at home or a nearby business, while others are only available by subscribing to Premium Connectivity.

These 2024.26 updates were some of the most requested features, so it’s great to see Tesla finally add them. Many users are still hoping Tesla will add SiriusXM music streaming, and with all the music services it’s added recently, you have to imagine it’ll happen soon. Especially since it means Tesla could ditch the required SiriusXM receiver in the Model S and Model X. Tesla is known for abandoning hardware in favor of software solutions, so this seems like a candidate.

release date

Since this update has just been sent out to 1 employees, it may take a week or two before we see any customers receive this update in their vehicles. However, this time frame will vary from a few days to a few weeks, depending on bugs found during employee testing. If you haven’t checked out all the features in Tesla’s 2024.26 update, check it out because there’s a lot more, including parental controls and a new climate control screen.
