Red Wings fans… Do you like the new signings?

Free agency in the National Hockey League is a few days away, and the Detroit Red Wings are actively trying to acquire more and better talent in order to make the team’s first Stanley Cup playoff appearance since 2017.

First, the team lost several players from last year’s roster to free agency. Forward David Perron signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Ottawa Senators. They also lost defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to the Carolina Hurricanes on a three-year, $9.6 million deal. And goaltender James Reimer left the Motor City for a one-year, $1 million deal with the Buffalo Sabres. The team is also expected to lose forward Daniel Sprong in free agency, but he has not signed a contract yet.

As of this writing (July 3), the Red Wings have signed six players as free agents, in addition to re-signing Patrick Kane (pictured above). Here’s a look at each of them. All contract numbers are courtesy of capfriendly.com:

Detroit Red Wings Free Agent Signing

The Red Wings still have a few key signings to make this summer. Restricted free agents Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider are both absolutely essential to return. Joe Veleno is not as high of a priority, but he showed potential during his time in Detroit.

Back to the question, do you like the free agency moves the Red Wings made? And do you think they will make a difference in whether the Wings make the playoffs or not? Let us know in the comments.
