Amazon is discontinuing its Astro for Business security robot

:Amazon.com said Wednesday it will stop offering its Astro for Business security robot for small and medium-sized businesses as it focuses on home robots.

The e-commerce giant first launched the dog-like robot for home use in 2021. Astro for Business was launched in November last year with a variety of customers in mind, including retail, manufacturing, healthcare and wellness.

“To accelerate our work and research to make Astro the best home robot, we have made the decision to end support for Astro for Business,” an Amazon spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

The home robot is designed to perform tasks such as monitoring your home, setting routines and reminders, and playing music and TV shows as it moves around your home.

The Astro for Business robot, priced at $2,349.99, was available exclusively in the US and was launched to help customers monitor their business around the clock.

Astro for Business robots will no longer be operational from September 25, according to an email sent by the company to customers seen by Reuters.

Amazon has announced a $300 credit that affected customers can use to purchase a replacement workplace solution.

Customers will also not be charged the Astro Secure subscription fee from Wednesday, and unused prepaid fees will be refunded.
