GreenGo and Sasol Italy formalize agreement to supply green electricity to industrial plants in Italy

The agreement, which is a pay-as-produced agreement, stems from Sasol Italy’s commitment to long-term sustainability and sees GreenGo supplying electricity from five photovoltaic power plants in three Italian regions with a total capacity of 24.5 MW. In the same agreement, Sasol Italy will ensure the collection and management of the balancing of energy generated within its purchasing portfolio for the Italian sites.

The plants, currently under construction, are expected to begin commercial operation in the first half of 2025. They will produce 45 GWh per year, covering more than 20% of Sasol Italy’s total industrial energy consumption.

The agreement, which will run for ten years, will come into effect as soon as the plants start operating commercially and provides for an innovative pricing system with a zone-based remuneration with a dynamic discount, a minimum price that is also dynamic and can guarantee the electricity generated by the photovoltaic plants, and a maximum price that allows Sasol to protect itself against any price shocks.

“The dynamic value of the pricing system allows us to offer the PPA an extreme commercial soundness of the contract by targeting the economic stability of our first investment as an IPP,” said Carlos R. Zanol, Head of PPA and Regulation at GreenGo. “Achieving a high level of bankability and an appropriate guarantee system was a strategic objective of this transaction with a global player such as Sasol.
