Netflix Removes Basic Ad-Free Plan in Many Markets

Netflix introduced an ad-supported plan in 2022 that costs $7 / CAD 6 / GBP 5 / EUR 6. Additionally, as announced earlier this year, the streaming platform has removed its Basic plan, which was its cheapest ad-free option (priced at $10 / EUR 5 per month).

Netflix is making this change now after multiple people on Reddit reported receiving notifications that their Basic plan was ending and they had to choose a new one — either a cheaper plan with ads or one of two other ad-free plans: FHD for $15.50 and 4K for $23.00.

The ad-supported plan has proven quite popular. It’s not yet available in all markets, but it already has 40 million subscribers.

One thing to note if you’re considering the ad-supported tier is that some TV shows and movies aren’t available on it (due to licensing restrictions, Netflix says). However, ads aren’t displayed on Kids profiles, and Netflix Games is also ad-free.

You can check this page to see what plans are available in your country and how much they cost (use the dropdown to switch between countries). Currently, the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Australia, and other countries no longer have a Basic plan.
