Germany: Manufacturing orders down 1.6%

Actual incoming orders in the manufacturing sector in Germany fell by 1.6 percent in May 2024 compared with the previous month. This is the fifth decline in a row, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced today.

In particular, in the aircraft, ship and train construction sectors, incoming orders fell by 19.2 percent compared with the previous month. The overall result was also negatively affected by a 2.9 percent decline in incoming orders in the automotive sector. However, growth in the production of data processing equipment and electronic and optical products (+11.2 percent) had a positive impact.
