Ineos delays electric vehicle launch due to low demand and tougher net zero emissions rules expected under Labour government

Delay: Ineos Automotive to hold off on launching its Fusilier jeep (pictured)

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s car company has delayed production of its electric SUV due to a lack of demand and expected tightening of net zero emissions rules under a Labour government.

Ineos Automotive will hold off on the launch of the Fusilier jeep, which is expected to be equipped with a small petrol engine to replenish the battery.

However, the company expects this to clash with a ban on the sale of new petrol cars in Europe from 2035, with Labour saying the ban would come into force in the UK earlier, in 2030.

Sir Jim, a petrochemical tycoon who also co-owns Manchester United football club, unveiled plans for an electric SUV in February. Ineos has not said when it will launch the Fusilier, which was due in 2027.
