US Department of Investment approves 2.8 GW Atlantic Shores South offshore wind project

The US Department of the Interior has approved the 2.8 GW Atlantic Shores South offshore wind project in New Jersey, United States. The Atlantic Shores South wind project is being developed by a 50:50 partnership between Shell and EDF and is located approximately 14 km offshore New Jersey. The project consists of two facilities, Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Projects 1 and 2, with capacities of 1.5 GW and 1.3 GW respectively. They are expected to generate enough power to power close to 1 million homes with renewable energy through a total of up to 200 wind turbines and up to 10 offshore substations with submarine transmission cables, potentially reaching land at Atlantic City and Sea Girt, New Jersey.

The United States has approved more than 13 GW of clean energy from offshore wind projects, enough to power nearly 5 million homes. New Jersey aims to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035, with 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040.
