SJVN to develop 4.5 GW of renewable energy for hydrogen production in India

SJVN Green Energy, a subsidiary of Indian energy company SJVN, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AM Green Ammonia India to develop 4.5 GW of wind and solar capacity for green hydrogen production in India. The MoU outlines plans for potential offtake in the long term.

Under the agreement, SJVN Green Energy will install 2.5 GW to 3 GW of solar parks and 1.5 GW-2 GW of wind farms in three phases, with the first phase building 1.5 GW over two years. This capacity will supply around 11.5 TWh/year of renewable energy to AM Ammonia, which is building a green ammonia plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The facility will be built in two phases and will initially produce 1 Mt/year of green ammonia. Ammonia production is expected to reach 5 Mt/year, equivalent to 1 Mt of green hydrogen, by 2030.
