FedEx committed to continuously expanding its network in the Philippines

Federal Express Corporation has signed an agreement with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), the operator and manager of Clark International Airport, to expand and modernize the company’s gateway in Clark, Pampanga.

The new facility is expected to provide enhanced capabilities for local businesses looking to expand their presence in international markets, as well as meet the growing demand for e-commerce, freight transport and cold chain deliveries in the Asia Pacific region.

To demonstrate their support for the expansion, Joshua Bingcang, president and CEO of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Arrey Perez, president of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), and Noelle Meneses, vice president of business development and operational improvement of Clark Development Corporation (CDC), attended the signing ceremony at FedEx Gateway.

Once completed, the new FedEx facility will be more than twice the size of the current one. The gateway will further enhance support for importers and exporters, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and heavy cargo shippers, providing greater and more reliable access to and from international markets.

This strategic expansion is in line with the vision of BCDA, CDC and LIPAD to transform Clark International Airport (CRK) into a leading global civil aviation logistics hub for international cargo transportation. The planned creation of additional facilities such as aprons and taxiways will facilitate FedEx operations, enabling better cargo handling and supporting growth in the logistics sector. These developments are expected to bring economic benefits to the Northern Luzon region, providing employment opportunities for the local community and serving as an economic stimulus to the region.

“We are pleased to sign this agreement, which symbolizes our intention to begin the expansion of our Clark gateway,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director of FedEx Philippines. “Since our inception in the Philippines in 1984, we have remained committed to continuously enhancing our network and service offerings to meet the growing needs of our customers and strengthen their connection to overseas markets. This expansion is a testament to our strong commitment to facilitating cross-border trade and optimizing the country’s supply chain capabilities.”

“We are proud to celebrate this partnership with FedEx Philippines for the expansion of Clark Gateway at the LIPAD project site,” said Noel Manankil, president and CEO of Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corp. or LIPAD. “This groundbreaking agreement embodies our unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable development and economic vitality in the region, ensuring a brighter future for us and the entire community.”

In October 2021 FedEx unveils its Clark gate for the first time to increase support for local businesses and e-commerce growth. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the 17,000-square-meter facility has the capacity to sort up to 9,000 packages per hour and enables FedEx to more efficiently deliver reliable service to customers. The facility’s dedicated cargo handling area spans 6,500 square feet.

As FedEx celebrates its 40th anniversary in the Philippines, the company continues to offer products and services that provide convenience to customers. In October 2023, FedEx launched a new air service between Vietnam and the Philippines with improved transit times, supporting the growth of trade volumes between the two markets. The continued rollout of an enhanced and diversified portfolio of FedEx solutions will enable Filipino businesses to take advantage of more import and export opportunities.
