This smart gadget will keep your phone fully charged during the Electric Picnic weekend

If you’re heading to Electric Picnic or another festival this summer – or just taking the family camping – then you definitely need to invest in a portable battery pack.

There are a number of popular chargers on the market from well-known brands like Belkin that can charge your smartphone when it runs out of juice. However, the team at Anker has launched a new accessory that stands out from the crowd and is perfect for a festival weekend.

Called the Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K), it’s about the size of an original iPod or a pack of playing cards. Its small size makes it easy to slip into your pocket, and it has a few clever sensors that check your temperature to make sure nothing overheats.

This device is more suited to iPhone users, and I’ll explain why below, but it also charges Android phones, despite what it says on the Amazon site.

How it’s working

My review unit was black, but it comes in four other colours. Its sleek metal frame houses a 10,000mAh battery, which is good for about two full charges of an iPhone, depending on which model you have. I tested it on a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro and managed two full charges, and the power bank still had plenty of juice left. Of course, you need to fully charge the power bank first. And you should make sure you leave home with a fully charged phone when you head to the festival.

The reason this power bank is ideal for iPhone users is that it’s compatible with MagGo charging, so it magnetically attaches to the back of your iPhone for Qi2 wireless charging. It comes with a little stand so you can use Apple’s amazing iOS 17 Standby display while your phone is plugged in in landscape mode.

This means it’s the perfect travel gadget, allowing you to use your iPhone as a bedside clock or miniature music player.

The wireless charging mode doesn’t boost the battery at high speeds, as it’s limited to 15W. However, there’s also 27W USB-C wired charging that will charge a standard iPhone 15 from empty to 60 percent in about 30 minutes.

The screen on the side of the Anker MagGo power bank shows how much battery life is left, and if it’s time to charge your device, it tells you how much time is left.

Verdict

Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K) is not cheap, but it is worth the price(Graphics: Anker)

I love the Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K), which is unique thanks to its stand, wireless charging, and ability to magnetically attach to the back of your iPhone. Despite all these features, it’s not a cheap product, but I think it’s worth the investment, especially for festival weekends, short city breaks, and camping trips.

Prices and availability

The Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K) costs €89.99 at Anker, but its website doesn’t currently appear to offer shipping to Ireland. Luckily, you can buy it on Amazon, which has slashed the price ahead of Prime Day (coming July 16/17) to €77.56 with free shipping.
