Goofish inspires young people to take on extra jobs

Goofish (also called Xianyu), an e-commerce platform specializing in second-hand goods, recently released its “2024 Goofish Trendy Side Jobs Recommendations.” The list includes 15 popular side jobs and 10 potential side jobs, such as Graduate Entrance Examination consulting, part-time maid service, and errand running. Goofish also launched a “Goofish CV” feature.

From July 2nd to 6th, users can search Goofish for related topics and participate in creating and publishing CVs, giving them a chance to win additional prizes worth up to 2,024 RMB (approx. USD 278.44). With graduation season approaching, Goofish wants to create more opportunities for young people to work not only in full-time jobs but also in extracurricular activities that could earn them a small fortune.

Online, Goofish has invited Luo Xiang, a famous lawyer, and Yang Tianzhen, a famous celebrity agent, as its spokespersons, who are very popular among young people. Searching for “Goofish CV” in the Goofish app will bring up a variety of CV templates for users to choose from. People can showcase their free time, hobbies, experience, skills, and more on their CVs, and once posted, they can wait for potential employers to contact them.

Offline, Goofish transformed Hangzhou Subway Line 1 into an “Encouragement Bread” train, inspired by Doraemon’s animated film “Memory Bread.” “Encouragement Bread” is randomly distributed on the subway train, encouraging people to pursue both their dreams and practical needs by earning money from their interests and knowledge.

According to the Young People 2023 Side Hustle Report, the vast majority of workers have considered “quietly doing extra work to wow everyone,” and more and more young people are feeling anxious because they don’t have a side hustle. However, the research results show that 15.4% of young people have not earned money through side-business activities, 67% of young people’s monthly income from side-business activities is less than RMB 3,000 (approx. USD 412.72), and only 12.6% of young people can earn more than RMB 10,000 (approx. USD 1,375.14) per month through side-business activities.

By introducing the CV function, Goofish meets young people’s demand for part-time work and provides more usage scenarios, embodying the brand’s concept that “life can have another path”.

Goofish is a well-known second-hand goods trading platform owned by Alibaba, founded in 2014 and operating for ten years. It has become the most popular e-commerce platform among young people, with 162 million monthly users. High-value users with online purchasing power exceeding RMB 2,000 (approximately USD 275.15) account for 52.7% of Goofish users, significantly higher than the total number of users.

Goofish was initially positioned to compensate for impulsive spending by allowing users to sell idle assets to increase income and reduce waste. Currently, Goofish is gradually becoming content- and community-based, introducing trending topics and influencers to create a richer content environment, increasing user engagement, and promoting transactional activity. Goofish has accurately captured the consumer psychology of this generation, using initiatives such as CV from a side job to attract young people to the platform.
