ISLAMABAD: Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan in sectors vulnerable to climate change such as health, education, food security, water and energy, ARY News reported.

This confirmation came today in Islamabad at a meeting of a high-level technical delegation from Qatar led by Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah with the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam.

During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation in the field of climate risk management, environmental protection, water management, energy, forestry and disaster risk management.

The Qatari delegation pledged to provide all possible technical and non-technical support to Pakistan in the fight against climate change, as well as help in environmental protection, disaster risk management and flood protection.

The Prime Minister’s coordinator was informed that steps were being taken to help Pakistan cope with climate change.

The Prime Minister’s Coordinator briefed the delegation on the government’s initiatives to enhance climate resilience and protect the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities in the country.

She stressed that Pakistan is grappling with increasingly severe effects of climate change, which is affecting various sectors of the economy and causing heatwaves and devastating floods during the monsoon season.

The head of the delegation, Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah, praised the government’s initiatives on environmental protection, climate risk management and natural disaster management.

Romina Khurshid Alam thanked the Qatari delegation for pledging their support for combating climate change and achieving environmental protection goals.
