Kabul and Tashkent private sectors sign new trade deals

New trade agreements between the private sectors of both countries were signed during the joint international exhibition of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Investors who presented Afghan products at the fair claim that they signed new agreements with Uzbekistan on the second day of the fair.

According to them, these agreements were signed in the paints, dried fruits, carpets, detergents and health products sectors.

Afghan investors hope that by the end of the fair, contracts worth millions of dollars will be signed between the private sectors of both countries.

Investors said the fair plays an important role in developing economic relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

“Development and trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, transit discussions, joint investments were discussed at this exhibition. All these opportunities, if implemented, can be effective for economic, industrial and investment growth in Afghanistan and better relations with Central Asian countries as well as Uzbekistan,” said Sakhi Ahmad Payman, First Deputy of the Chamber of Industry and Mining.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also said the aim of the joint international exhibition was to expand trade and economic relations with Uzbekistan, and Afghan officials met with Uzbek representatives on economic development.

“During this meeting, both sides discussed expanding trade and transit relations, balancing trade between the two countries by concluding a unilateral trade agreement for the benefit of Afghanistan, concluding investment and transit agreements, finalizing a memorandum of understanding on quarantine between the two countries, cooperation in the Afghan railway sector. Cooperation in the field of Surkhan-Pol-e-Khumri power line was discussed.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed expanding trade and transit relations; balancing trade between the two countries by concluding a unilateral trade agreement for the benefit of Afghanistan; concluding investment and transit agreements; finalizing the quarantine agreement between the two countries; cooperation in the Afghan railway sector; and cooperation in electricity transmission through the Pul-e-Khumri-Surkhan power line,” said Abdulsalam Javad Akhundzadeh, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

On the opening day of the exhibition, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Nuruddin Azizi stressed the need to strengthen trade and transit relations between Kabul and Tashkent.

Azizi also called on Uzbek investors to invest in various sectors in Afghanistan.
