Bakersfield Suspects Arrested in Possession of a Pipe Bomb and Other Explosive Devices in Kern County

July 4, 2024 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on July 3, 2024, Detectives from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit, Kern County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, Kern County Probation Department, and Kern County Sheriff’s Office Lamont Substation, executed a search warrant in the 8200 block of Halleluiah Street in Bakersfield.

During the search, Detectives located detonated improvised explosive devices, one of which was a pipe bomb. Additional materials were located on the property consistent with the manufacturing of other improvised explosive devices.

Further, copper wire and tools utilized during the theft of electrical copper wire was located.

Joseph Johnson (32) of Bakersfield, was arrested and booked at the Lerdo Justice Receiving Facility for violation of Penal Code 18720 – Possession of Destructive Device Materials.

Additionally, Sandra McCombs (53) and Oscar Sanchez (26) were arrested and booked at the Lerdo Justice Receiving Facility for outstanding Felony warrants.
