The provincial government of Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 4, delivered solar panels and water pumps to three partner organizations as part of the SecuRE Negros campaign to promote the use of renewable resources (RE) by Negrenses.

During a ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol lobby, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he was honored to be given the opportunity to hand over the renewable energy power systems to the beneficiaries for use in their areas of responsibility.

“When we were selecting the partners who were to be the recipients of these projects, we were aware that they had to represent our ordinary people who are often overlooked in top-down development processes,” he added.

The beneficiaries are: GAID Mambugsay Integrated Social Forestry Project Minority Association, which received one 1 HP surface pump and five 550 W solar panels; Negros Economic Development Foundation (NEDF) – four 550 W solar panels with inverter and accessories; and University of St. La Salle Training Farm in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City – one 3 HP submersible pump and eight 550 W solar panels with accessories.

The Governor also witnessed the handover of a RE system kit donated by Negros Island Solar Power Inc. to Ara-al Elementary School in Nailab Extension, through the Schools Division of the Department of Education, La Carlota City.

Lacson, who was joined by former governor Rafael Coscolluela, provincial energy and environment consultant, said during the ceremony that the day symbolizes the provincial government’s recognition of the importance of beneficiaries in working together to ensure reliable, renewable, accessible, affordable and sustainable energy for the people of Negros Occidental by 2030.

“I hope that the savings you will achieve by using renewable energy power systems will allow you to allocate funds to more productive purposes that directly benefit the people you serve,” he added.

This is how we promote renewable energy in Negros Occidental,” Lacson said.

The price of solar panels has fallen, so more and more Negrens are using solar energy.*PNA
