The Perfect Storm to Create an Imperial Presidency

In the past, the warnings we have heard from historians, tyranny experts, and the Biden-Harris campaign may have been mere speculations, but today we face a very real threat in the form of a perfect storm:

1. The right candidate who has no shame, is power hungry, aggressive and psychopathic and has a charismatic influence on his loyal cult followers

2. Fulfills decades of right-wing efforts to return to a form of imperialism through an imperial presidency

3. It comes amid a time of corporate takeovers of media outlets by billionaires, from local news to the major legacy newspapers we all used to read with respect, one of which—in an act that would be all too obvious if it were fiction—installed a team led by a man trained by Britain’s Murdoch, who has been accused of covering up for conservative Tories and covering up illegal activities in the newsroom. Instead of protecting American values ​​of an independent, free press, some of the country’s major corporate media institutions are moving in the opposite direction.

Independent news outlets like PoliticusUSA have been under siege for 7 years, with site after site closing its doors. Even those with dark money and hedge fund money have problems, and we don’t condone any of them. We started this site out of a desire to inform voters about issues from The People’s perspective, focusing on the impact of politics on working families, not Wall Street.

In the days of social media, we could easily reach voters, but today most of those channels have been taken over by corporations and big money. Things are changing. We are fortunate to still have a loyal audience, but with the many changes behind the scenes at Google Search, Google ad payouts sometimes being cut by as much as 75% without warning, SEO and AI writing being rewarded, the end of net neutrality under Trump, and corporate media working with social media billionaires to take over the “news” space, this is an enterprise that cannot be sustained. We have supported it with our own money. This is our way of protecting this democracy and its institutions.
