UK CMA Director Returns to Cleary Gottlieb as Antitrust Partner

Ricardo Zimbrón, a former director of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has returned to Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP as a partner in its antitrust practice. Cleary Gottlieb announced Zimbrón’s return to its London office on Wednesday, July 3.

Zimbrón will focus on UK and EU competition law, focusing on anti-competitive agreements, merger control, digital regulation and abuse of dominant position. He initially joined Cleary Gottlieb in 2011, where he represented clients before the CMA and the European Commission, handling antitrust matters in international jurisdictions. His litigation experience includes cases before the High Court and the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Zimbron began his legal career in 2010 as an attorney at New Square Chambers before moving to Cleary Gottlieb.

Michael Gerstenzang, Managing Partner of Cleary Gottlieb, praised Zimbron’s return, stating: “Ricardo’s experience at the CMA is outstanding and will further strengthen our London competition team and broaden the scope of our merger control and antitrust practice in the UK and EU.”

Zimbron’s return comes amid a significant antitrust activity for Cleary Gottlieb, which has included high-profile mergers such as the Microsoft-Activision deal, Sony Music’s purchase of AWAL and Hitachi Rail’s acquisition of Thales.
