Breaking Limit Ray Tracing Benchmark Released by Basemark

harbinger

Basemark has released a new cross-platform ray tracing benchmark, GPUScore: Breaking Limit. This benchmark is designed to evaluate the performance of a wide range of devices that support ray tracing, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and high-end desktops with discrete GPUs. It supports multiple operating systems and graphics APIs, providing a comprehensive assessment of performance across platforms and devices. As ray tracing technology becomes more popular in consumer electronics, including high-end desktops and portable devices such as laptops and smartphones, there is a growing need for a benchmark that can accurately evaluate and compare performance across devices and platforms. Breaking Limit addresses this need by providing valuable insight into how different devices handle hardware-accelerated graphics rendering.

This benchmark provides an essential tool for developers, manufacturers, and consumers to reliably measure and compare real-time ray-traced rendering performance across a variety of hardware and software environments.

“As ray tracing continues to gain popularity across all device categories, it was a natural progression for us to develop a benchmark that reflects the current and future landscape of the technology,” said Mircea Cristea, Product Owner at Basemark. “We’re excited to introduce Breaking Limit, a unique benchmark that enables direct comparison across all types of ray tracing devices.”

Breaking Limit includes two different workloads: Breaking Limit and Breaking Limit Ultra. Breaking Limit is suitable for comparing mobile devices, laptops, and desktops equipped with GPUs that support ray tracing. Breaking Limit Ultra offers a very demanding workload designed specifically for desktops with high-end GPUs. It also includes benchmarks to evaluate the performance of well-known AI scaling techniques such as FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling).

The need for a comprehensive and comprehensive benchmarking tool is clear as ray tracing technology continues to evolve. Breaking Limit not only provides a reliable measure of performance, but also helps identify the strengths and weaknesses of different devices and platforms in handling ray tracing workloads. This information is crucial for developers looking to optimize their applications, as well as for consumers making informed hardware purchasing decisions.

In addition to its benchmarking capabilities, Breaking Limit offers detailed performance metrics and analytics, giving users a deeper understanding of their devices’ capabilities. This includes frame rates, render times, and other critical performance metrics that impact the overall ray tracing experience. By providing a unified testing environment, Breaking Limit ensures that performance comparisons are fair and accurate across all tested devices.
