Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday said that along with the significant economic growth of the country, the state of Nagaland is also recording “positive economic growth”, especially in the private sector.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was speaking at the launch of a march of 35 Boleros, 100 cycles and two Mobile Investigation Vans (MFVs) at Chumoukedima Police Complex. He was accompanied by Home Minister Y Patton.

Rio said the exclusion of the vehicles would allow the police to respond faster and serve the public more effectively, keeping in mind the rapid development of urban areas in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland, as well as districts like Mokokchung and Tuensang.

He said that in an era of economic growth, businesses also face problems, including crime, and that the government is concerned about the safety of all citizens, especially the business community.

Pointing to Dimapur, which is the only commercial centre in Nagaland and boasts of being a hotspot for extortion, illegal taxation and crime, Rio said that bordering Assam, various people live in conflict with police personnel in and around Dimapur.

He said that if all areas are brought under control, the state will become a safer place, while calling on the police to upgrade their equipment, implement latest technologies and have a “blue policy” towards all social elements in urban areas.

Claiming that over the years, the Nagaland Police had been actively and efficiently discharging their duties, bringing laurels to the state in checking various crimes, Rio later expressed hope that with the addition of new vehicles, they would be able to track criminals and ascertain when and where an operation and a call is taking place.

He later assured the police that his government would always support the police and administration and encourage them to continue to discharge their duties diligently and also appealed to the public to support and cooperate with the police and administration in effectively discharging their duties to ensure peace and security for all citizens.

Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, who is also the Home Minister, said the Nagaland government is not “just adding” vehicles to its fleet but is strengthening its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens.

He said the vehicles also symbolise the government’s commitment to responding quickly and effectively to the needs of the people and are an indispensable resource that will enhance operational capabilities, especially in areas where mobility is crucial for timely intervention.

Y Patton said the introduction of the new vehicles will help increase state police mobility, as well as improve response times, range and patrol effectiveness.

Patton appealed to the citizens of Nagaland to continue to cooperate with the police as their vigilance, cooperation and timely reporting of suspicious activities play a crucial role in preventing crime and maintaining peace.

He also informed that the government is committed to providing the police with all necessary support and understands that effective law enforcement requires not only vehicles and equipment, but also continuous training, adequate resources and a conducive environment.

He later conveyed his best wishes to the Nagaland Police as they embark on a new chapter of their lives with enhanced capabilities and expressed hope for continued excellence in law enforcement and cooperation towards building a safer Nagaland.

Meanwhile, as reported in an official bulletin, Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, in his welcome address thanked the Chief Minister under whose guidance and leadership the Nagaland Police has made significant progress in developing effective tactics to deal with the situation.

He added that some vehicles are connected to the GPS system and the purpose of this connection is to increase efficiency, safety and security of the state.

He said the addition of the new vehicles is a significant achievement for the state and will enhance the operational capabilities of law enforcement agencies.

The State Police have taken a groundbreaking step by putting these vehicles into service and increasing their commitment to improving public safety, reducing emergency response times, delivering justice, solving crimes and creating a safe environment for citizens.
