City clarifies parking regulations in calendar

Question: What is calendar parking?

Answer: Calendar Parking means vehicles can only park on one side of the road, with the sides alternating on odd and even days. There are signs throughout the city indicating which days are allowed.

Q: What are the applicable hours?

A: It is valid 24 hours a day, and a new cycle starts at 9:00 AM.

Q: Is this a seasonal phenomenon?

A: No. Parking Calendar Parking is open all year round.

Q: Why do we use Calendar Parking?

A: The main reasons for using Calendar Parking are:

  • To provide sufficient space for two-way traffic.
  • To provide space for emergency vehicles (e.g. fire brigade, ambulance, police) so that in the event of an accident they can pass easily and quickly.
  • To enable appropriate planning of the work of snowplows and street sweepers.

Q: What happens when people don’t follow Calendar Parking rules?

A: If calendar parking rules are not followed, the following situations may occur:

  • Reduces the space needed by emergency vehicles in the event of an accident.
  • Not enough space for two-way traffic.
  • Increases the risk of vehicle collisions.
  • Snow plows and street sweepers may not be able to operate effectively.
  • The law and the Police are authorized to issue parking tickets.

Other things worth knowing:

Calendar parking does not allow temporary parking so as not to obstruct traffic.

The Act has full authority to issue a ticket if you do not adhere to the parking calendar. Fees start at $20. You can pay them at the Town of Fort Frances Civic Center.
