Nominate to be the voice of the voluntary sector

  • Expressions of interest for the Volunteering Reference Group are now open
  • We encourage representatives of the voluntary sector to apply
  • The group provides an important link between the sector and the state government.

The Cook Government is calling on people to show their support for the voluntary sector by signing up to the Volunteer Community Reference Group (Reference Group).

The Reference Group, chaired by Minister for Volunteering Don Punch, provides a vital link between the sector and State Government.

The role of the Reference Group is to provide the State Government with updates on emerging trends, issues affecting the sector and views on the implementation of the Western Australian Volunteering Strategy.

People from the voluntary sector can apply to join the Reference Group. Membership lasts for two years.

We strongly encourage applications from young people, LGBTQIA+ people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with a disability and people from regional and remote areas of Western Australia.

The Volunteering Community Reference Group will consist of 12-15 members and will include representatives from the voluntary sector, including individuals and organisations, as well as the lead sector body: Volunteering WA and the Department of Communities.

The expression of interest process will establish a pool of members to draw from as vacancies arise. Visit http://www.volunteeringwa.org.au/vcrg to register your interest by 4pm on Friday 9 August 2024.

As Minister for Volunteering Don Punch stated:

The Volunteer Community Reference Group plays an important role in promoting the interests of the sector and helping to guide future State Government investment.

“It is important that the sector has a voice in shaping the future of volunteering in Western Australia and this Reference Group is just one way the Cook Government is working to ensure this.

“I would strongly encourage everyone to apply to join the Volunteer Community Reference Group and become a voice for the sector.

“The Cook Government appreciates the countless hours that volunteers put in each year to make our communities better places.”
