revenue in Spain of 7.1 billion euros

Amazon recorded annual gross revenue of €7.1 billion last year from its operations in Spain, an increase of 11 percent compared to 2022. According to Amazon, around fifteen thousand Spanish SMEs currently operate on its platform.

The company announced this in its annual update. Amazon is by far the leader in the e-commerce market in Spain. In addition to direct and indirect retail, the company also earns money from advertising and logistics services for merchant partners and from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Investments

Amazon began operating in Spain in 2010 and says it has invested a total of €17.5 billion in the country up to and including 2023, with €3.4 billion invested last year. This includes capital expenditures such as building infrastructure, operations centres and offices, as well as operating costs, including employee salaries. Amazon cites data from independent consultancy Keystone Strategy, which estimates Amazon’s contribution to Spain’s GDP at €13 billion.

By the end of 2023, more than 25,000 people were working for Amazon in Spain, with many more set to be added following the recent announcement of AWS’s €15.7 billion investment in the country.

Logistics centers and delivery stations

Amazon says it operates around 40 facilities of varying sizes across Spain. Last year, it opened two new fulfillment centers in the provinces of Zaragoza and Girona. By the end of this year, a new center will open in Siero, Asturias, as well as two delivery stations in Granada and A Coruña.

Amazon did not provide data on the development of sales of Spanish marketplace partners in 2023, but reported that there are currently fifteen thousand SMEs connected. To attract new trading partners, the company is focusing on its free training program Despega, which helps SMEs to conduct their business online.
