Can Kobo make a better e-book reader?

The recent launch of the Kobo Libra Color and Kobo Clara Color has made us owners of some truly amazing devices while missing out on others (Libra 2).

Can Kobo make a better e-book reader than those currently on the market?

What new feature has been introduced that will help their devices stay ahead of the market?

Well, technology is constantly evolving and updating. As a buyer, you should focus on buying the best device available in the market according to your needs and specifications.

But if we give a concrete answer, the biggest change Kobo could make would be on the software side. On the hardware side, it’s hard to do much more than the competition with an e-reader. Some possible software updates could include adding multiple library cards at once, like you can do with just the Libby app on Android or iOS. But looking at the current trends at Kobo, that doesn’t seem possible at the moment. Another needed update would be the ability to sync sideloaded books between the Kobo app on my phone and my Kobo devices. That’s something cool that Kindle readers can do.

According to the Reddit user, there are some improvements that need to be made on the UI side, such as:

  • Introduction of kerning and ligatures
  • Fix word spacing and hyphenation in kepub format
  • Support in kepub for embedded fonts. Better support for tables, like Kindle has
  • It would be useful to have annotations exported as text or HTML.
  • Multiple library card support
  • Integrated remote page reader

Other Reddit users are calling for improvements like a hands-free device that uses AI to interpret voice-assisted natural language navigation, compatibility with a Bluetooth page-turner, a text editor that supports any Bluetooth keyboard, longer battery life, expandable storage, and more.
