Government to extend easy visa norms for PLI sector companies

Business

The government is working to simplify the application process for Indian business visas for companies that have set up manufacturing facilities in the 14 sectors covered by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme but are not direct beneficiaries of the scheme.

“We already have a streamlined process for PLI beneficiaries. We want to extend it to other non-PLI beneficiaries operating in these strategic sectors. We are currently working out a similar streamlined process for those non-PLI beneficiaries in PLI sectors,” Rajesh Kumar Singh, secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), was quoted as saying. DPIIT comes under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

“The final decision is yet to be made but we are moving in that direction. Hopefully, it will be achieved soon. Visa matters are handled by the Foreign Office and the Home Office,” the Industry Secretary added.

The PLI programme covers 14 sectors, including mobile telephony, drones, home appliances, telecommunications, textiles, automotive, specialty steel and pharmaceuticals.
