Co-op to Use Walmart’s Store Assist Technology to Expand Online Grocery Sales

The cooperative plans to use Walmart Commerce Technologies’ Store Assist online order fulfillment solution.

The app allows retailers to manage orders for pickup, third-party marketplace sales, store shipping and last-mile delivery – all in one place.

A streamlined, omni-channel fulfillment workflow streamlines store processes and operations, eliminates the need for associates to switch between quick trade apps or devices, and enables faster delivery times.

Store Assist technology will focus on ease of use, scalability, specialized and customized use to meet the diverse requirements of grocery fulfillment and a unified platform to simplify online ordering systems. It is also used in Walmart stores.

The move further supports Co-op’s ambition to capture more than a third of the express trade market.

Co-op’s head of online development George Hayworth commented: “Our aim is to grow our share of the fast-paced market, both through our own online store and with strategic partners. Our approach focuses on ease, speed and convenience in our local stores, which are well-positioned at the heart of the community.”

The retailer has rapidly expanded its fast-growing business and estimates that more than 80% of the UK population now accesses Co-op grocery shopping, both through its own online platform and through delivery partners including Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

Store Assist is also used by Asda, one of Co-op’s main competitors in the UK grocery retail market.

The Co-op recently expanded its partnership with European e-commerce logistics provider InPost, tripling the number of parcel lockers in its UK stores.
