bpost: we offer our customers a new way to collect and exchange postage stamps

bpost will issue the first crypto stamp in Belgium this year in cooperation with the Austrian Österreichische Post, PostNL in the Netherlands and POST in Luxembourg.

The stamp will go on sale in the bpost online shop on 21 October 2024. It underlines bpost’s commitment to continuous innovation.

In one of the most anticipated philatelic events of the year at bpost, the first Crypto stamp in Belgium will be released in October. But what exactly is a Crypto stamp? At first glance, the bpost Crypto stamp looks like any other self-adhesive stamp. It can be used to frank 3 World shipments (a non-standard shipment up to 100 g for the rest of the world). But the Crypto stamp consists of two parts: a physical stamp and its digital counterpart, a limited edition NFT (non-fungible token), which is stored on the blockchain and can be registered, collected and exchanged online.

international cooperation

bpost has joined forces with Österreichische Post, PostNL and POST Luxembourg on this issue. The Austrian post office is a pioneer in this field, issuing the first Crypto stamps in 2019. A joint issue with PostNL – the first NFT stamp of the Dutch post office – followed in September 2022. POST Luxembourg joined them to issue another Crypto stamp in October 2023. These initiatives were an immediate success. This year’s Crypto stamp is another joint issue.

The Belgian visual will be revealed throughout September, and additional details about the physical/digital set, including how to purchase it, will also be released there.

Chris Peeters, CEO of bpostgroup: “We are pleased to present our first Crypto stamp. By combining philatelic tradition with blockchain technology, we offer our customers a new way to collect and trade stamps that is both innovative and secure. This initiative also underlines our strong links with Österreichische Post, PostNL and POST Luxembourg.”
