ADNOC and e& to build largest private 5G network for energy sector

ADNOC and e&, a global technology group, announced a strategic project to build the largest private 5G wireless network in the energy industry, spanning 11,000 square kilometers (sq km).

The 5G network will provide high-bandwidth connectivity to ADNOC’s land and sea operations. It will enable ADNOC to further integrate advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions into its most remote facilities and reduce costs through automation, improved efficiency, minimised emissions and improved worker safety. The project is scheduled for completion in 2025 and is expected to generate US$1.5 billion (AED5.5 billion) in value over its first five years of operation.

This groundbreaking project with e& is a key milestone in ADNOC’s journey to becoming the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. Global demand for energy and AI is growing, so by investing in cutting-edge connectivity across our operations, we can ensure we continue to deliver safe, reliable and responsible energy to our customers. As we continue to grow our diverse energy portfolio, this strategic partnership will create value and enable us to make faster, smarter decisions from the control room to the boardroom, future-proofing our business and keeping our people and the environment safe.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director of ADNOC and Group CEO

Once complete, 5G will transmit information from sensors embedded in more than 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms to help make real-time recommendations to extend the life of those assets and ensure safety in the field. The network will also enable the digitization of wellheads and provide end-to-end visibility into operations, increasing productivity across the company’s value chain.

e&’s collaboration with ADNOC will enable a state-of-the-art private 5G network that underscores our commitment to harnessing technology and driving a sustainable and intelligent transformation in the energy sector. Because connectivity is the foundation of technological progress, we are leveraging our expertise as a pioneer in network innovation and AI to drive breakthroughs in the energy sector and drive progress and success across industries. In addition to this partnership, we continue to work with ADNOC and other key players across multiple sectors to set new industry standards and redefine what is possible.
