BNY appoints José Minaya as global head of investment and wealth

Jose Minaya will take over the role Global Head of BNY Investments and Wealth Sept. 3, the company announced Tuesday. In his new role, he will report directly to the president and CEO Robin VinceIn addition, he will be a member of the company’s executive committee, replacing Hanneke Smitswho is retiring after several years of managing the company.

“BNY manages, moves and keeps money safe, and as the global wealth segment continues to grow, we are uniquely positioned to serve clients throughout the financial lifecycle,” Vince said in a company statement.

Minaya joins BNY from Nuveen, where he served as President and Chief Investment Officer, overseeing all global operations and investment activities across equities, fixed income, real estate, private markets, natural resources, alternative investments and responsible investing.

Minaya also has extensive experience in companies such as AIG, Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan and TIAA.

He is a member of the Supervisory Board Manhattan College and the Advisory Council Amos Tuck Dartmouth School of Businesswhere he obtained an MBA.

Minaya’s appointment comes at a time when BNY is expanding its presence in the global luxury goods market.
