EU asks Amazon for more information on compliance with Digital Services Act

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission said on Friday it had asked Amazon to provide additional information on measures the U.S. e-commerce giant has taken to comply with its obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

“In particular, Amazon has been asked to provide detailed information on its compliance with the rules on transparency of recommendation systems (…),” the EU said in a statement.

Amazon said it must provide the requested information by July 26.

DST requires big tech companies to do more to combat illegal and harmful content on their platforms.

Amazon said it was considering the EU’s request.

“We are reviewing this request and working closely with the European Commission. Amazon shares the European Commission’s goal of creating a safe, predictable and trusted shopping environment,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

“We believe this is important to all participants in the retail industry and we invest significantly in protecting our store from bad actors, illegal content and creating a trustworthy shopping experience. We have built on this strong foundation with DSA compliance,” the spokesperson added.
