RT and RW devices can monitor online gambling activities

JAKARTA – The most effective method to eliminate online gambling is to use RT and RW devices to monitor residents’ activities in their homes.

According to sociologist from Jenderal Sudirman (Unsoed) Purwokerto University, Hariyadi, this method is considered the most effective because RTs and RWs, as the lowest-ranking government representatives, can directly monitor online gambling activities in a given community.

“Because with such a system, community members can remind each other if their neighbors are caught gambling online,” Hariyadi said, quoting Antara.

According to Hariyadi, online gambling can have a negative impact on the social environment. One of the most common is family rift.

This is because online gambling can lead to the breakdown of the family economy, which can lead to problems that cause conflict within the household.

In addition to economic problems, online gambling can also cause a lack of interaction between family members at home.

“Time that should be spent communicating with family is even spent on gambling. The longer people gamble, the higher the level of addiction,” he said.

He therefore assessed that the role of RT and RW is very necessary to convince every family not to fall into the vortex of online gambling.

Hariyadi believes that with early preventive action, online gambling cases can be reduced.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a decree establishing the Team to Eliminate Online Gambling under the chairmanship of Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Hadi Tjahjanto.

The establishment of the Special Team was provided for in Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 21 of 2024 on the Special Team for Combating Online Gambling, issued in Jakarta on 14 June 2024.

“To date, 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed, and the Judi Online Task Force has been established to accelerate the eradication of online gambling,” Indonesian President Joko Widodo said (December 6).
